RE: Home Dump Station

Not sure what you plan on using to clean out your tanks, but if you us bleach or any chem. that kills bacteria it will also harm your septic system. If you kill the good bacteria in your system you will have to pump out your home tanks and it can also plug up your leach field. Are there any truck stops near you that have dumps stations? Would be very careful what chemicals you put in you home septic system, you may be opening up a can of worms. Don I'm assuming this means you don't wash your clothes with bleach or other chemicals? Rid-X on a regular basis will keep the "good" bacteria going.

RE: Overhead MPG readout vs. hand calculation

Mine is not very accurate, so I really don't pay much attention to it. I'll say one thing for it , though. It sure knows when I'm towing - you can see those numbers plummet! :E

RE: new small computers from Dell

As usual Dell is behind the times. Asus and Acer rolled out those laptops months ago. The Asus has not so great review, but the Acer One is getting pretty good press. The prices are all in the same area.

RE: How to make a carpet/mat container?

Making it is simple, it's usually just a peice of 4" PVC with threaded caps at both ends. Then you mount it using pipe brackets or strapping. Mounting would be specific to your model, so you would have to determine the best way to mount.

RE: Side Wall Panel Feels Like Sandpaper - Water Damage?

I would say, yes, it looks like water damage. Where it's coming from would be the real question. IF it is water damage, you should feel dampness there at some point, maybe only in a hard rain or something along those lines - wish I could give you a good tip on finding it, but sometimes they're tough to track down.

RE: how many of you camp with children

We upgraded from the pup to the TT becauseof the kids. Spend one long rainy weekend in a pup with 3 kids and you'll know what I mean. Down to just two now, but keeping the TT.

RE: Bad power supply

Don't waste your money. Emachines are notorious for the PS and the Motherboard going out (one takes out the other I'm sure). I've had to tell numerous customer's their emachine is dead. Don't throw good money after bad, time to upgrade! :B Stay away form emachines in the future, they are of very poor quality.

RE: ziploc omelete?

On edit: When we have a group I often break a dozen eggs into a 12 cup muffin tin and bake them. Then I serve them with up with english muffins, canadian bacon, (or sausage patties) and cheese, and let people assemble them into their own "egg mcmuffins." Always seem to be a hit... That's a great idea, I'll have to try that one.

RE: WD-40 on Tires

WD-40 Water Displacement - formula 40 If you're removing the water, you're drying out the tires. Also, most people think that wd40 is lubricant, it is not, it is a cleaner (penetrant) that does leave a film behind that some can mistake as a lubricant.

RE: Have to replace floor in bathroom

I discovred a problem like that on mine. Nearly the entire bathroom floor was bad. I ended up tearing out the entire bathroom and redoing it. Put a new commode, sink, built a vanity myself, kept the same tub though. Even redid two of the walls because the damage was due to a leak in the back corner from the outside. At some point I should post pics. I tore out what I could of what was bad, replaced the 2X3's in the floor, and then used marine grade plywood for my subfloor. It's a ton of work, I won't kid you, but saved myself about $1500 by doing it myself. I'm also much happier with the bathroom than I used to be. One big tip, don't get stingy on the tear out. If anything, take out more than what's necessary, never less.

RE: Laptop MOD-2 hard drives?

Laptop IDE interfaces are not setup for 2 channels. Your BIOS isn't either. It will either not work at all, or you won't see the slave drive. Your best bet is to get a USB enclosure to put the 2nd drive into. BTW: for the previous poster - PATA is still the standard on laptops, SATA is VERY slowly replacing as standard. Edit: Amemded, before anyone gets any bright ideas, the above is true for laptops built with only one drive, obviously not those that come with 2 drives.

RE: Shower Curtain - best practices ?

Sounds like a nice idea. Wouldn't mind seeing a picture of the installation ! I don't have a pic of my installation (I'm at work) but here is a link to one brand (I believe there are a couple). Newline Bathroom

RE: Shower Curtain - best practices ?

I tossed the "curtain" and opted for the "shower shade". It mounts kind of like a shower door, but it is a self retracting "shade" or curtain that slides accross the tub. I really like it, and the plastic is guaranteed to be mold/mildew proof. So far I haven't had any issues. I can't remember the REAL name of it, I got mine off of ebay.

RE: pictures

I wholeheartedly agree. I've seen CG's with sites that have pictures of all their pretty flowers, and their pool, but you have to assume there aren't any sites. Pictures of sites and good pictures looking down their "roads" to get a feel for the CG would be great. Website pictures are (for all intents and purposes) free to add, so I say the more the merrier - put a pic of each and every site - hey wouldn't that be cool! A CG map with a link as you click on a site that show's a pic of it. It's really not hard to do, and would be a great way to show off a CG. Better stop now, I can feel the slope slipping. Added - Dang! Someone beat me to it!

The first time we stayed in "Lagniappe Campground" we had no idea how to pronounce it.

RE: Latest Windows Update + software firewalls = trouble

SOLUTION: Get rid of ALL software firewalls. I've been in the computer industry for 15 years now and haven't seen one single sofrware firewall that works properly. Use only hardware firewalls (all routers have them built in) and forget about all the bugs in this software. Sooner or later (regardless of "how long it's been working") your software firewall will become corrupt and block all internet access. I've worked on over 10,000 computers and this would probably be the #1 piece of advice I could give anyone. Don't bother telling me about how great your software is, or how long you've had it, it will fail - guaranteed.

RE: camcorder opinions

Most camcorders only record stills to the card, some may record video, but if it is uncompressed than even at 4gb you'll only get a couple of minutes. Raw video takes alot of storage space. If you're concerned about editing later, stick with the DV tapes, they are very small and you can get up to 90 min. on one tape. The price on the tapes has decreased significantly over the last few years. A DVD camcorder will give you "dvd quality" which is mpeg2 format, that means compressed. The original will look just as good as a DVD, when you start editing and then rendering is where you get a loss of quality, although for most home videos, you probably wouldn't notice the loss. I just wanted to give you something to think about. Also, I have a Canon and like it very much.
